Can women wear shirts untucked when wearing ties?

I'm starting a new waitressing job tomorrow and part of the uniform is a shirt and tie. I don't like having the shirt tucked in as the waistband of my skirt is quite high, but I'm not sure if it's acceptable to wear a shirt untucked with a tie. The shirt I'll be wearing is long enough to cover the top of the skirt.
