Cleaning scratches on a DS lite?

I got an onyx black ds lite and I really like it so I got a silicon casing to protect it from scratches, but it turned out worst than it would be without the casing. The casing made smudges on the cover and new scratches just appeared out of nowhere. I'm wondering if there is any way to clean the casing without having to replace the shell.
