Why did the US support Albania in the war in Kosovo?

It really bugs me how the US always tries to stand up for muslims and I never understood why we do it when we were bombed by muslims and they always high jack the plaines and yet people get mad in America if you put the muslims down. Why dont the muslims stay in the middle east were their own holy land is and be with their own kind and just leave the non muslims alone. Its the persons choice weather they want to follow Islam or not and the muslims need to respect that.
