I can't seem to keep my hardwood and linoleum floors clean! Any advice?

It's hardwood in every room except the kitchen and the bathroom. Absolutely no carpet. I sweep every floor in the morning, but by that night our feet are getting dirty again. I would like to be able to walk around my house with no shoes on and not have my feet getting dirty! It's driving me crazy, because I'm a total barefoot person.
